A dental tooth extraction requires Dr. Youngs to remove the entire tooth from the mouth of the patient. Tooth extraction is usually the last measure to use in the event all other forms or practices of treatment can not fix a tooth.
Extractions can help eliminate costly repairs and even provide space needed for future dental treatments. Extractions are typically performed for teeth that are:
1. Infected or decayed
2. In danger of gum disease spreading to their surrounding tissue or bone
3. Need space to properly push through the gum line or for orthodontic work
4. Wisdom teeth, impacted, infected or otherwise
What to Expect
Tooth extractions do typically not require a lot of time. Dr. Youngs will first make the patient comfortable with an anesthetic to numb the area, followed by the extraction process- in which the patient will feel so pressure, but no pain.
Following the extraction, some minor bleeding can be expected. The exposed area of the gums will have a piece of gauze placed over it, which will need to be changed and monitored for the following 24 hours. Dr. Youngs will review guidelines for diet and other post-procedure information with you so that the area heals gracefully.
