One of the biggest factors in top oral hygiene is twice-yearly dental cleanings. Even with a proper at-home oral health regimen every morning and night, plaque can still form in those hard-to-reach places over time. While your typical toothbrush and floss can get out the majority of bacterial build-up, having your teeth cleaned by a professional dentist here at Subtle Smiles will ensure your smile is healthy and strong. We recommend visiting our office every 6 months for a cleaning and exam so we can help remove any lingering plaque as well as identifying and treating any potential problems before they develop.
What to Expect
Typically, one of our trained and professional hygienists will perform your cleaning. Dr. Youngs will also be meeting with you, as well, to perform a thorough examination and identify any issues he may see with his handheld tools.
The entire process lasts from anywhere between a half hour and an hour. Most patients find that this exam and cleaning do not cause any discomfort, but if you are nervous or feel uncomfortable, please let us know and we'll be happy to assist you.
How It's Done
Dental cleanings performed at Subtle Smiles Dentistry typically require a two-step process:
1) Our hygienist will scale the teeth with our available, advanced tools to remove any build-up plaque or tartar found on and around your teeth. We will always take extra time to focus on the gum line, since bacterial build-up can be tricky around these areas, as well as any pockets around the gums to remove the residue.
2) After scaling, our hygienist will work on polishing the teeth. Because everyone's smile is unique, we have different sized polishing heads that may need to be used to accommodate the different sizes and shapes of your teeth. This is the final step to remove any lingering plaque and help protect your smile from future damage.
